America has faced many crises during its nearly 250-year history. The Great Depression, World War I, and II, the 9-11 attacks, just to name a few. However, history reveals three distinct, earth-shaking circumstances spiraling into a crisis so disruptive that our country was in jeopardy of collapse. Thankfully, America’s Great Overseer is looking out for her. The Declaration of Independence calls Him Divine Providence. Most call Him God. During each crisis, a leader emerged, equipped by God, to handle the crisis. I’m speaking of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and now Donald J. Trump.
“For Heaven’s sake,” you ask, “how can I categorize the Revolutionary War and the Civil War with the COVID-19 virus?” I’m not. No, this third crisis is much more sinister than that, but without God’s intervention, these three crises would destroy America from within.
Let’s review each separately.
The Vulnerable Crisis
Washington witnessed God’s intervention throughout his military career. Blatant miracles such as:
- On four separate occasions, river waters receded enough for the American troops to walk across. Then flooded over before the British forces arrived. Making it impossible for the enemy to cross.
- While Washington’s troops were confined on Brooklyn Heights, a dense fog rolled in during the night and remained through the heat of the morning until all of Washington’s troops crossed the East River to escape General Howe’s naval ships.
- During the Battle at the Monongahela, Indians ambushed Washington’s troops. Killing every officer on horseback except for Washington. George Washington wrote his brother afterward stating:
“But by the all-powerful dispensations of Providence, I have been protected beyond all human probability or expectations; for I had four bullets through my coat, and two horses shot under me, yet escaped unhurt, although death was leveling my companions on every side of me!”
George Washington’s leadership through the French and Indian War, and the Revolutionary War is remarkable in and of itself. Additionally, his presiding over the creation and writing of the Constitution of the United States, and then becoming our first American President, qualifies him as an extraordinary American leader and man of God! Without Washington’s accomplishments, America may not exist as it does today.
A Devastating Crisis
As diligent and hard-working as the Founders were in creating the perfect form of government that would last indefinitely, they could not overcome the agenda established by the southern delegates who refused to allow slavery to be outlawed. Without compromising on slavery, the states would never have united to become the United States of America. The Founders believed their chances for abolishing slavery fared better as a united country as opposed to divided states working separately.
In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected President and had a Republican majority in Congress. The slave states knew this spelled disaster for slavery. So, in January 1861, South Carolina decided to secede from the Union. Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas followed suit. In February 1861, these states convened and created the Confederate Constitution.
At Abraham Lincoln’s inauguration, on March 4, 1861, Lincoln indicated that he would not allow the states to secede but wanting to avoid warfare. Unfortunately, Fort Sumter in South Carolina needed supplies, and Lincoln agreed to ship. President Lincoln notified South Carolina in an attempt to avoid hostilities. They refused to allow it, and on April 12, shots fired on the fort began the Civil War. Lincoln believed secession was illegal, and he was willing to use force to defend Federal law and the Union. Lincoln said:
“In your hands, my dissatisfied fellow-countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of Civil War. The government will not assail you…You have no oath registered in Heaven to destroy the government, while I shall have the most solemn one to preserve, protect, and defend it.”
With much of the press siding with the South, many negative news stories were written and printed about Lincoln. The South had no intention of giving up without a fight. When Lincoln delivered the ‘Emancipation Proclamation,’ on January 1, 1863, essentially freeing the slaves, fuel was added to the fire of rebellion in the South. One newspaper wrote:
“The South has given its answer to Lincoln’s program of emancipation at Fredericksburg and Murfreesboro. If he wanted to know in advance what would be the effect of his promised proclamation, he has probably by this time been partially enlightened. The South does not answer his manifesto with words. She leans upon her bloodstained sword. Indifferent alike whether he oils his speech with soft conservative blarney, or whether he howls forth the threats of the incendiary and murderer
…But no proclamation which the Yankees have issued, or may issue, will have the slightest effort upon the slave population of the South…But beyond the lines of the Federal army, slavery will continue intact and impregnable as the rock of Gibraltar. It is a good deal older than any earthly government, and it will last a good deal longer than any throne or republic of the earth. Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brethren, is a proclamation which even the mighty Abraham Linclon cannot abolish.”
War always brings death and destruction to both sides. Even when you win the War, you also lose. God placed Abraham Lincoln into this era of time with the responsibility of leading America out of the destructive practice of slavery. Fortunately, Lincoln’s faith was strong, and his courage was beyond reproach.
In June 1863, several weeks before the Battle of Gettysburg, a college president asked Lincoln if he thought the country would survive. Abraham Lincoln replied:
“I do not doubt that our country will finally come through safe and undivided. But do not misunderstand me…I do not rely on the patriotism of our people…the bravery and devotion of the boys in blue…or the loyalty and skill of our generals…But the God of our fathers, who raised up this country to be the refuge and asylum of the oppressed and downtrodden of all nations, will not let it perish now. I may not live to see it…I do not expect to see it, but God will bring us through safe.”
The Civil War ended on April 9, 1865, abolishing slavery. Over the next five years, the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments were ratified, freeing all slaves and giving them the right to citizenship and the right to vote.
On April 15, 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, just six days after General Robert E. Lee surrendered. Lincoln’s efforts saved the Union and finished the work initiated by the Founders to abolish slavery and acknowledge that “All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
The Reckoning Crisis
On November 8, 2016, Donald Trump was elected the President of the United States. Not since Abraham Lincoln has there been a President so hated by a class of people that they’d sooner destroy the entire nation than to have him as President. Trump’s very existence tears deeply at the hearts and souls of who these agonizing people are.
President Trump is the embodiment of what a TRUE, red-blooded, patriotic American is. He represents the God-fearing, gun-toting, Bible-thumping, ‘deplorable,’ Americans love so much, and progressives HATE! Unfortunately, the ‘Reckoning Crisis’ is not a war on the COVID-19 pandemic. Although, if it were, it’s a battle we will win.
No, the ‘Reckoning Crisis’ (progressivism) is much more insidious than any pandemic. It’s more catastrophic than even the Revolutionary or Civil War. This crisis is by far more dangerous than anything we’ve ever had to face. And if we lose this battle, America will not be the only failure—the whole world suffers.
Thank God He raised up another robust and courageous leader for this crisis. Thank God for Donald J. Trump! The reckoning crisis of ‘progressivism’ has met its match.
Progressivism started around the early 1900s. The progressive leadership rejected the Founders’ philosophy, where God is at the center of our government. They reject the notion that Almighty God secures our rights—and since God gave us these rights, the government can NOT take them away. Progressives loathed the Founders’ ideas. So, they propagated a philosophy where the government, not God, issued Americans these rights. Therefore, since the political leadership established our rights, they can also eliminate them as they see fit.
Progressive leaders, Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and others studied communism in Germany and Russia intending to install this philosophy into America. Hence, I call progressivism: ‘Communism, American style.’
So, where is the crisis?
Progressivism, like the COVID-19 virus, needed time to incubate within the American culture. For over 100 years, its effects multiplied little by little, behind the scenes, only periodically showing a symptom or two. This progressive virus, poised for its crescendo and full-blown pandemic in 2016, assuming Hilliary Clinton was elected, plummeted in disgrace and despair. Revenge was the only option. Trump and all his comrades must pay for their disobedience to the cause.
Here he is, the all-American President and his family, in the spotlight daily, like nails on a chalkboard to progressives. Exposing corruption the swamp so much enjoys. Eliminating President Trump must be their highest priority, and at any cost.
The Trump era begins
Once the Trump era began, the progressive propaganda machine sprung into action with phase one:
‘Experts’ spouting their views:
- Trump will ‘lose the election in historic fashion’…however, he was a huge winner
- Trump will start a war with North Korea…but no conflict, and long-range missiles firing ceased
- Trump’s tax cuts will ruin the economy… instead, uncompromising growth records
- Trump has no regard for the black community…generated the lowest-ever black unemployment
While the ‘experts’ were wrong, phase two began with the attempted coup.
- Riots in the street after election day
- Demand for a recount of the election results
- Influence the delegates to turn their electoral votes against Trump despite the American people
- Invoke the 25th amendment because he’s not fit to be President
- Spying on the Trump campaign is exposed
- The Stormy Daniels investigation
- Russian collusion without any evidence
- Two-year, $35 million Mueller investigation
- Quid-Pro-Quo with Ukraine
- Baseless Impeachment trial
- COVID-19 Coronavirus
- Shutting down the economy
- Possible second impeachment attempt
- The ongoing effort of the court system to resist every move President Trump makes.
The question then becomes, why?
- Is President Trump wrong for America?
- Is President Trump incapable of running the country?
- Is he not patriotic enough?
- Is he just after power the Presidency brings?
No…per Biblical scripture, Donald J. Trump was seated in the White House by the one true God progressives sought to eliminate. He’s been raised up for ‘such a time as this.’ His wisdom and courage far exceed that of most people. His ability to withstand the forces of evil which attack him at every moment is remarkable. I’m not sure there is another man alive today that can withstand the pressure he faces.
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.—Romans 13:1 NIV
Then why must the progressive agenda have him removed from office?
Could it be the American version of communism was so close to becoming a reality? Or, perhaps it’s because Hillary Clinton took her eyes off the ball just too soon thinking, the Presidency, was “rightfully hers?” Could it be progressives know better than God?
Perhaps it’s much deeper than that. Is it still realistic to believe the American people elect leaders to do the people’s work, or have we been bamboozled? Has deception and corruption become the mainstay of Washington? Are voters manipulated with disinformation, believing the candidate has their best interest at heart? Have the hearts of Americans become callous over the knowledge of fraud and bribery, which permeates Congress and the bureaucratic system?
Can America survive the ‘reckoning crisis’ we face today?
Or will the progressive communist dream come true? Will we remain the beacon of Freedom and Liberty, and conquer this divisive transformation America has experienced? What long-term impact will, shutting down our economy have on America? Will we unite under the leadership of President Trump? History will have the answers in the future. But for now, my money is on America.
With God’s intervention, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and the American people overcame these crises and succeeded. Now, more than ever, President Trump needs the American people to stand beside him. Together, we can cure our nation of the evils of progressivism and ‘Make America Great Again,’ as the Founders envisioned and God established.
